Women's Football growth

Football for All has been involved in developing recreational football for women since 2017. Year after year, the impact has grown, with more women joining the game, more sessions being held and stronger communities being built.

Why is Social Football for All programme needed?

More women playing football

A standard 11-a-side affiliated football match takes 90 minutes, not including travel and pre and post-match team meetings. That can easily take up half a day and many people may not have the time or fitness for it. What’s missing are safe, quality spaces where women can play, stay active and socialise. Football for All delivers local, small-sided sessions that last just 60 minutes. They’re welcoming, flexible and open to all abilities, without the pressure or commitment of joining a club or team.

Barriers to participation

  • Not enough opportunities to play casual football (UK Parliament)
  • Little support for women returning to football or playing as a beginner (Women in Sport)
  • No easy way to play without long-term commitment (FC Communities)
  • Safety concerns with late evening slots and travel (Starling Bank manifesto)
  • Unequal access to prime slots and locations (FC Communities)
  • Lack of marketing and promotion of women’s recreational football (Women in Football)

Socially and environmentally sustainable growth

Eco friendly 🌍

Our place based approach allows us to create sessions at easily accessible local 3G pitches, reducing the need for long-distance travel, which helps cut carbon emissions and encourages players to adopt sustainable behaviours, such as using public transport to attend games.

Long-term impact 🌱

We involve our community volunteers to help run sessions because people are our most important investment. We have a proven track record of getting people active, with 90–150+ minutes of football and healthy choices every week.
